BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Lafayette attorney and funeral home director will chair the governing board for the public hospital to be built in New Orleans.
LSU System President John Lombardi named Elaine Abell on Thursday to chair the University Medical Center Management Corp. Abell said its first meeting will be sometime in August.
The Legislature created the private non-profit hospital corporation to oversee the replacement for Charity Hospital and the interim hospital opened after Hurricane Katrina.
Abell is president of the board of directors for Fountain Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery. She graduated from LSU Law Center and is on the boards of several charities and commissions and the LSU Research and Technology Foundation. She also was on the LSU Board of Supervisors from 1988-1994.
