BUNKIE, La. (KALB) - More than 160 soldiers made their way back to Central Louisiana on Saturday.
Last year, the Louisiana National Guard’s 1086th Transportation Company deployed to Kuwait. On Saturday, the Bunkie-based unit came home and entered the city to a crowd of cheering supporters.
Local fire departments even pulled out all the stops to welcome in the troops.
We caught up with a couple of the soldiers as they reunited with their families. They tell us it was worth the year-long deployment to return to this kind of support.
"It's great, it's great,” expressed Sergeant Bobby Jenkins. “This was my first deployment, it was a great experience in Kuwait. To come home to get this warm embrace, I’m speechless, man."
"Oh man, it's more than rewarding,” added Sergeant Jonathan Soto. “It makes me feel like we accomplished something, that we did something, and that we're appreciated for it. It makes the whole journey worth it."
While in Kuwait, the unit supported operation 'Spartan Shield' by providing transportation support in operations.
