BATON ROUGE, La. (KALB / WAFB) - According to WAFB, a couple in Baton Rouge was arrested on Valentine’s Day, after authorities said they left their 5-year-old daughter with a stranger.

Shane White, 37, and Lacey Allen, 32, were said to have left their child with an unknown woman, saying they would return within 45 minutes. This was around 1 p.m. on February 14. Two hours later, the couple still had not returned, so the woman said she contacted police. Authorities came for the child and notified the Department of Children and Family Services.

After DCFS interviewed the child, officers attempted to locate the parents around 8 p.m. at Woodacres Motel on Airline Hwy. Officers arrived on-scene first, then the couple arrived shortly after with their 2-year-old daughter. Their vehicle was filled with trash and dirty diapers, and only one child car seat inside.

Authorities proceeded to search the couple’s room at the motel, observing it was “filthy”. Clothes and food were all over the floor, food was spoiling in the kitchen and the sink was filled with dirty pans.

Both White and Allen were arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, charged with child desertion and two counts of cruelty to juveniles. DCFS took custody of their two children.
