ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - The Rapides Parish District Attorney's Office tells News Channel 5 that the charge Cleco CEO Darren Olagues was facing for domestic abuse strangulation has been dropped.

The District Attorney's Office said the decision was made at the request of the victim.

Olagues was arrested on December 8 by the Alexandria Police Department. As we later learned, Rapides Parish Sheriff William Earl Hilton called ahead to the jail to instruct his staff to not take a mugshot of Olagues. He later released him from the jail on his own recognizance, meaning he didn't have to pay bond - a move that he did not have the authority to do under the Louisiana Code of Criminal Procedure.

Olagues has been on personal leave from Cleco since the arrest. There is no word yet if or when he will return to work.
