NEW YORK (AP) - How did society influence the imagery in Playboy magazine over the decades? Magazine researcher Samir Husni says in the wake of last week's passing of Hugh Hefner: Not so much.
Hefner remained the final arbiter of Playboy spreads and which women rose to Playmate. Former Playboy senior photographer Josh Ryan says there were subtle shifts taking into account social media star-making power and other more modern factors, but Hef signed off on each spread.
The Playboy founded died Wednesday at 91.
Husni says it will be a challenge for Playboy to find another arbiter of the "It factor" when it comes to nude pictorials. He called the audience for Playboy an audience of one - Hugh Hefner himself.
