Lee Street shooting on Thursday around noon

ALEXANDRIA, La. (APD) - UPDATE (2/24/17 at 3:20 p.m.): The victim in the Lee Street shooting of February 23, has passed away. The victim has been identified as James Melton, Age 36 of Woodworth. As of this release, both suspects remain in jail with bonds currently set at $150,000 each. Investigators anticipate that charges will be upgraded from Attempted First Degree Murder to First Degree Murder as early as Friday afternoon.

UPDATE (2/23/17 at 7 p.m.): The Alexandria Police Department has arrested Eddie Ray Jackson, 17, and Nicholas West, 19. They are charged with armed robbery and attempted first degree murder.

On February 23, a few minutes before noon, APD officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Save More store on Lee Street.

Upon their arrival, officers found a man in a truck had been shot in the head. The scene was immediately secured and detectives and crime scene investigators also responded.

One suspect was apprehended nearby a few minutes after the incident, in the 3500 block of Baldwin Ave. Over the next few hours, the investigation led to the identification and subsequent capture of other suspects. A further update will be issued when these suspects are charged and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.

The name of the victim is not being released, and no further details are available at this time.
