Alexandria, LA (KALB) A local disabled Navy veteran is the proud owner of a new home, thanks to a non-profit organization.
Thomas L. Jackson, a retired Navy veteran, stands proudly in front of his new home.
A Vietnam Veteran, Thomas L. Jackson served in the Army before spending more than 20 years in the Navy. The Inner-City Revitalization Corporation, which serves low to moderate income families searching for homes, helped Jackson buy a house. His was one of 10 funded by a 1.9 million dollar grant from the Louisiana Housing Corporation. Jackson said "it was a chore, all of the calls and paperwork. It was a long journey but God lead the way."
Barbara Dashiell, Executive Director of Inner-City Revitalization, also a Navy veteran, was happy to help. "It gives my heart great pleasure, especially when I'm helping families who have worked hard all of their life. I'm a Navy veteran, 20 years and Mr. Jackson is also a Navy veteran so when I can help out a veteran that's just the cream of the crop for me."
There are four more houses available for low to moderate income families. For more information, contact Barbara Dashiell at 318-442-1502.
