PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - There were no frowns in sight at Today's Dentals and Red River Dentals Miles of Smiles event.
The two offices teamed up to offer free dental services to the first 75 patients Saturday.
However, they had patients lining up and camping out the night before so the teams quickly bumped that number up to 100, to accommodate the large turn out.
Services included a free cleaning and extraction or a filling of the patient's choice.
Both offices are usually closed on Saturdays, but staff came in bright and early at 5:30 a.m. to get prepared for the day ahead.
They also provided patients with refreshments while they waited.
Today's Dental Dentist Dr. Jonas Gauthier said they didn't mind the early wake up call this morning as they were excited to give back to the community, whatever the cost.
"It's not cheap, but it's certainly something that we feel that we need to do," Dr. Gauthier said. "The community has blessed us for so many years. We are just so excited to give back to them."
This is the first year for Miles of Smiles, but both teams say they look forward to many more.
"I think it's wonderful," said patient Troy Mayes. "I mean it is a blessing for a lot of people that need it and don't have the insurance to cover it. Because I mean, dental insurance is one of those type of things that not everyone has and it is very needed."
