ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - One local funeral home is taking a stand, and lending a hand to a grieving family in Alexandria.
News Channel 5 brought you the story of the Briggs family earlier this week. Their loved one, Tyneisha Briggs, was stabbed to death during a fight over the weekend.
Along with mourning her loss, the family has been raising money for the burial.
The Winnfield Funeral Home of Alexandria heard of the Briggs’ struggles, and decided to reach out. They've extended their services for the funeral, free of charge.
Anthony Briggs, Tyneisha's father, said it's gestures like this that are helping them through the hard times.
"Oh, I am deeply grateful,” expressed Briggs. “To everyone. Especially Winnfield Funeral Home, because they didn't have to do this. And it just makes my heart feel good."
"It's not to get a check or to gain notoriety,” said Eugene Miller, Winnfield Funeral Home General Manager. “But for the most part it's to show that we do care.”
The visitation for Tyneisha Briggs will be held at Winnfield Funeral Home on 3rd Street in Alexandria on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
