'Own Your Own Health' Louisiana health challenge update


BATON ROUGE, La. (Octagon Media Press Release) - Own Your Own Health Louisiana (OYOH), a free, three-month wellness challenge with the Louisiana Department of Health kicked off across the state on Jan. 23 and is off to a great start.

The Own Your Own Health Challenge incorporates a web-based program designed to encourage Louisianans to work as individuals, communities, schools, businesses and churches to improve their lifestyles through healthy activity and eating habits.

The program is hosting a City vs. City Step Challenge that includes the annual Public Individual Participants Challenge, Public Team Challenge and weight loss challenge.

The current City vs. City rankings are:

- City of Tallulah: (Avg.) 75,208 steps; 35.4 mi. vs City of Bastrop: (Avg.) 55,038 steps; 25.9 mi.

- City of Alexandria: (Avg.) 56,654 steps; 26.7 mi. vs City of Monroe: (Avg.) 59,957 steps; 28.2 mi.

- Ville Platte On the Move: (Avg.) 41,535 steps; 19.6 mi. vs City of Opelousas: (Avg.) 28,946 steps; 13.6 mi.

Although the challenge has started, Louisianans are still encouraged to participate and can sign up through the website www.oyohla.com.
