PINEVILLE, LA. (KALB) This weekend Pineville High kicks off Fame the Musical. Fame is a high energy show with engaging song and dance numbers. Richard Rudd, the director of the theatre program, tell us that this year marks the 20th anniversary of Pineville High School being a performing arts school,
"We've wanted to do this show for some time, but, believe it or not, this is our 20 year anniversary for being the performing arts school here in Rapides parish. So what better opportunity to go to Fame, the story of a real performing arts school in New York city, for our kids to relate to all the trials, struggles, and triumphs that they have as performing arts students."
Rudd says that all of their shows are special, but "this one really raises the bar for us."
Sidnie Kendrick is a senior at Pineville High and she plays one of the leading rolls. Although this is her stage debut, she says she really enjoys the program because of the friendships she's made,
"The thing I enjoy most about this program is the friends that I get and how close we get to each other."
The students in the program not only learn how to sing and dance, but Rudd says, "It's an all encompassing art form; and it really prepares students, not just for performing, but for life."
The show starts Thursday, October 20 and runs through Sunday, October 23.
