Pineville Police respond to high school threat

PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - The Pineville Police Department responded to a rumor overnight concerning threats of a shooting at Pineville High School.

Around 8 p.m. Monday night, Pineville Police posted to their Facebook page they were aware of the rumored threats against students and they were investigating. They also stated as a precautionary measure the department would have law enforcement personnel at the high school Tuesday.

Police later updated the public around 10 p.m. confirming there was a perceived threat about a juvenile bringing a weapon to the school, and there was no indication it was a valid threat, but spreading of the issue through social media made matters worse.

PPD did not confirm if there would be any disciplinary action towards the source of the perceived threat, but did share the incident does involve a juvenile so there will be no official releasing of a name.
News Channel Five does not usually report on suspected threats like this one, but due to fast-spreading nature of this news online, we wanted to inform the public PPD claims to have the situation under control and will continue to monitor it.
