BATON ROUGE, La. (LSU Baseball Press Release) - LSU senior left-hander Jared Poche’ has been named one of Collegiate Baseball magazine’s National Players of the Week for the third time this season.
Poche’, a native of Lutcher, La., extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 29 on Saturday, as he blanked Wichita State in a seven-inning outing. Poche’ limited the Shockers to just four hits with no walks and three strikeouts, firing 91 pitches and leaving the game after the seventh inning with a 12-0 lead.
The streak of 29 straight scoreless innings in a single season is the second-longest in LSU history – Ben McDonald tossed 44 straight scoreless frames in 1989.
On the year, Poche’ is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 29 innings with two walks and 18 strikeouts. He has given up just eight hits all season, and opponents are batting only .086 against him.
In his three previous outings, he blanked Baylor over seven innings on three hits; he held Maryland hitless until the ninth inning; and he fired a complete-game, seven-inning no-hitter against Army.
