ELMER, La. (RPSO) - RPSO is investigating a double homicide that began as a missing person investigation.
On May 10, around 6:45 a.m., deputies responded to B. Dousay Road in Elmer, in reference to an unconscious female who was not breathing.
When deputies arrived, they determined the female, Gloria Toney, 83 of Leesville, to be deceased.
Sheriff’s Detectives and Crime Scene Unit responded to begin their investigation into what they believed to be a homicide. Deputies also learned the homeowner was missing.
According to initial reports, Bobby Wayne Dousay, Sr., 74, was last seen in the area of 66 B Dousay Road in Elmer on Monday, May 7, around 1 p.m. Dousay and Toney lived together at the residence. A missing persons alert was put out through the local media Thursday evening.
Detectives then began investigating the case as a homicide and a missing person.
Deputies continued their search of the area for Dousay until dark on Thursday night and resumed search operations again Friday morning.
Around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, deputies located what they believe is the body of Dousay in the woods approximately one mile from his residence. Detectives are working on a positive identification and are now ruling this as a double homicide. Cause of death has not been determined and an autopsy on both subjects will be conducted in the upcoming days.
Dousay is the father of Sheriff’s Office Communications Sgt. Jackie Dousay.
"It brings this homicide close to home within our department," said Sheriff William Earl Hilton. "You don't have a lot of crime of this magnitude in Rapides Parish, especially out in a rural community like Elmer. We are on it. We are going to be working it and hopefully within a day or two we'll get this thing to a conclusion."
