PARADIS, La. (AP) - Authorities in Louisiana said a deputy who was dragged a short distance after attempting to stop a suspect from driving off has been treated and released from a hospital.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reported that the St. Charles Parish sheriff's deputy was injured during a traffic stop Tuesday night on U.S. 90 in Paradis.

A news release said it was determined during the stop that the driver, Lamar Lathan, was wanted in Chicago on drug charges. The deputy asked Lathan to exit the vehicle and then attempted to reach inside. Lathan drove off, dragging the deputy.

Lathan's vehicle and his girlfriend, Tiffany Suggs, were later found but he had fled.

Lathan was located and charged with aggravated battery and other offenses. Suggs was charged with possession of ecstasy. It's unclear if they have lawyers.
