TEMPLE, Texas (AP) - Police said a 2-year-old boy struck and killed by a vehicle near an Interstate 35 frontage road in Central Texas had been in a baby sitter's care while his parents were out.
Temple police said officers responding early Sunday to the call about a fatal accident were told someone was calling to report a missing child. An officer went to the home where the call originated, obtained a photo of the child and sent a copy to officers at the accident scene about two blocks away.
They confirmed it was the child reported missing.
Police said Monday the baby sitter last saw the boy about 1 a.m. The missing person call came in shortly after 2 a.m.
The names of those involved have not yet been released. Police said the investigation is continuing.
