ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Having the best job I’ve ever had in my life has been truly amazing these past few months. It will have been 6 months for me at KALB on February 7. As the saying goes, time flies when you are having fun!
Since January, I’ve started to pursue my Online Meteorology Certificate from Penn State University. I feel I need to supplement my foundational knowledge from years of meteorology coursework at Lyndon State College in Vermont.
By pursuing this certificate, I hope to gain more knowledge, earn more credentials in broadcast meteorology, earn more respect in the field, and continue to gain on-the-job experience as a weathercaster for KALB! I’ve been thinking of doing a Meteorology Certificate for several months, even before then as I was wrapping up my Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Journalism Arts.
The first of four online meteorology courses, “Understanding Weather Forecasting”, has been really fun and exciting so far! There are weekly quizzes and labs that need to be completed and I’m really enjoying the topics being discussed. It’s actually a good refresher for me on the topics I’ve seen in previous meteorology courses I’ve done! This week and next week, on top of my weekly quiz and lab, I also have a project to work on and it essentially is a bigger lab with more expectations.
So, as I continue to smile and show my passion on air every night as Tom works his way back fully slowly from his extended absence, I will be a student at home or at work pursuing and learning meteorology. I’ll continue to update you guys on my progress in the Certificate throughout as I progress. I appreciate all the support I’ve gotten in these past couple months as I’ve been filling in for several weeks and carrying the load with pride.
