NATCHITOCHES,La – When Jordan Dupuy arrived in Natchitoches more than two years ago, he inherited not only a sterling on-court tradition for Northwestern State women’s basketball, he also became a steward of perhaps NSU’s most well-known annual athletic fundraiser.
When the 2018 Don’t Die Wondering Golf Classic tees off at 8 a.m. Aug. 4, it will celebrate a milestone.
“The Don’t Die Wondering Golf Classic always has been a special tradition within the Lady Demon program, but this year has extra meaning because it is the 30th year of the tournament,” said Dupuy, who will enter his third season as the Lady Demons head coach in 2018-19. “We hope to make this on the biggest one yet.”
The 30th Don’t Die Wondering event will again feature an 18-hole scramble format with four-person teams. Tee times are set for 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Northwestern Hills Golf Course.
There will be prizes awarded for winners in the low-gross and low-net handicap divisions.
The cost for each foursome is $400 or $100 per person. All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Northwestern State women’s basketball program.
“The Don’t Die Wondering is our main fundraiser for the year, and it is viewed as the jump start to our season,” Dupuy said. “All of the proceeds go to improving the experience of our student-athletes while here at NSU. It’s a great time for everyone and we hope to get as many people involved as possible. We need teams, sponsor donations and prizes, so there are many different ways to get involved.”
