Next Saturday, Charles will make his head coaching debut when the Wildcats welcome Wayland Baptist for the 2017 season opener.

"I guess it has hit me, but it hasn't been too much," said Charles who named the head coach last April, having previously served as the Wildcats' defensive coordinator since 2012.

"I haven't really had the opportunity to just sit back and say, 'hey, I'm a head coach.' I think it's going to hit me one day."

Kickoff for the September 2 matchup with Wayland Baptist is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Wildcat Field. It'll be the first of three home games scheduled for the month.
