MANY, La. (KALB Sports) -- After holding commitments to LSU and UCLA, Many running back AJ Carter signed Wednesday with Arizona State University.
"It was an opportunity I couldn't pass up," Carter said. "Most high school players, that's their dream to go D1 and I accomplished that dream."
The senior said his relationship with ASU running backs coach John Simon was what kept him interested in the school after he decommitted from UCLA. The Bruins fired Jim Mora and hired Chip Kelly in November.
Simon coached former Peabody and now Oakland Raiders running back Jalen Richard at Southern Miss where he racked up over 1,000 yards in 2015.
At Many, Carter ran for over 1,800 yards and 25 touchdowns. He was also named first-team running back in District 3-2A while helping the Tigers reach the semifinals in the playoffs.
"AJ was just special from the first day," said Many head coach Jess Curtis. "He's a kid that listened and always wanted to compete to be the best he could be. We knew he had the opportunity to be a D1-type of guy, so it's such a great day to see him realize his dream."
Carter also held offers from Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Purdue, Vanderbilt and Kansas.
