ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Standing at just 5'9", University Academy's ReJayla Williams is quietly dominating the high school girls basketball scene here in Cenla. Last week she chipped in 25.5 points and 10 rebounds per game in a pair of wins for the Lady Lions, earning her our Athlete of the Week.
"It's reassuring. It's humbling. Me and my teammates been in a little rough patch right now, so it's getting us back to where we used to be."
Last week Monday, Williams scored 24 points and grabbed 8 rebounds against 3A Church Point in an 83-47 victory and then she'd add 27 points and collect 12 boards in a 77-35 win over 4A Beau Chene on Thursday to help her team improve to 6-2 on the season.
"She's our leader on offense. Everything goes through ReJayla. I tell them on timeouts that every trip down the floor, if it's not in transition, we should be looking at her first."
Although University Academy is just a 1A school facing bigger competition, ReJayla Williams is filling up the stat sheet regardless of opponent averaging 22.3 points and 9.6 rebounds through the first eight games of the season. The now 9-3 Lady Lions will play their final game of the McDonald's Invitational tonight against Bossier.
UPDATE: UA defeated Bossier Thursday night, 37-19.
