The parade will follow the same route as the Children’s Parade, in downtown Alexandria, and will consist of classic cars paired with college cheerleaders from colleges and universities in Louisiana.

Each year AMGA chooses a person of distinction, who has had a positive impact on the quality of life in Louisiana, to serve as Grand Marshal of the Sunday Krewe Parade.

Julie Hanna, the daughter of Jack Hanna, Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, is the Krewe Parade Grand Marshal and represents the Jack Hanna family. Like her father, who is also the host of Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures and Into the Wild, Julie helps to educate people about the importance of conservation through a hands-on approach. Through her international travels, she has seen firsthand the importance of taking care of our wildlife, natural resources, and environment. Being a cancer survivor, Julie has been a spokesperson for the Leukemia Society, Children’s Hospital, St. Jude's Radiothon, and the American Cancer Society. She believes the greatest reward in life is knowing that your life has made a difference in helping others, whether it be people or animals.

The Grand Marshal for the Children's Parade is Mary Jane Hobgood, Miss Teen Louisiana.

The goal of the Alexandria Mardi Gras Association is to provide a cultural event, appealing to all cross sections of the community, which will stimulate the economy.
