Parents could face a $15 fee to get their
child’s cell phone back if it is taken away at school.
The Rapides Parish School District’s Discipline Policy Review
Committee has asked for District Attorney James Downs to review the
legality of implementing a fee to retrieve a cell phone.
Committee members, which include teachers, principals and
community members, also would like more teeth in the current cell
phone policy, especially for serious offenses like photographing
students and faculty without permission or texting threats.
The committee asked Smith to seek an opinion from Downs on a fee
and stiffer penalties for serious cell phone violations. The
committee will meet to discuss Downs’ opinion next Thursday.
