West Virginia lottery officials are
working to confirm that the winning Powerball ticket worth 276.3
million dollars belongs to eight employees of the Monongalia County
tax office.
Lottery spokeswoman Libby White says the eight women were in
contact with someone from the office last night.
Both White and fellow spokeswoman Nancy Bulla say that while
they have no reason to doubt these women are the winners, the
ticket must first be validated in Charleston.
Saturday’s jackpot is worth nearly 95 million, 504 thousand
dollars after state and federal taxes are taken out.
White says divided eight ways, that would be nearly 12 million
apiece.
This jackpot marks the seventh time a ticket sold in West
Virginia has won the Powerball jackpot. It is the second largest
win since December 2002, when Jack Whittaker won a jackpot worth
nearly 315 million dollars.
