Pineville 08 Cleanest City

The Louisiana Garden Club Federation has named the City of Pineville the “2008 STATE’S CLEANEST CITY”. Pineville won District “G”, which was for cities with populations between twelve and eighteen thousand. Pineville was competing against the Cities of Morgan City and Bastrop in the State finals.

The first week in April, Pineville was judged in District competition and advanced to the State Cleanest City Contest finals, which were the first two weeks in May. This is Pineville’s fourth such award in the last six years. After winning their district many times previously, Pineville was selected as the STATE"S CLEANEST CITY for the first time by the Louisiana Federation of Garden Clubs in 2003, and repeated in 2004 and 2006. Pineville’s entry is sponsored by the Alexandria Garden Club, which includes many Pineville ladies in its membership.

In 1958, the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc. was first among members of the National Council of state Garden Clubs, Inc. to sponsor a statewide “Cleanest City Contest”. 2008 marks the 50th consecutive year of this contest. .

Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields says the victory is a total team effort “This award is a victory for all city employees and our citizens. Hats off to our Public Works Department, the Pineville Beautification Committee and the Alexandria Garden Club; It is obvious that our citizens and employees share the same sense of passion and pride in our community and this award validates what can be accomplished when we work together.”
