The Pineville Police Department says that keeping children safe, as they exit off the school bus, is a big concern.  They’re warning drivers to slow down; otherwise, they will be fined for a moving violation.

The Rapides Parish School District’s Department of Transportation told News Channel 5 that they’re taking several measures, such as placing police officers on the buses, to catch motorists breaking the law and prevent any accidents.

According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, if you’re meeting or traveling behind a school bus on a multiple lane highway, you must stop when it is loading or unloading children.  However, if you’re driving on a highway divided by a ditch, grassy median, or concrete barrier- the only time you’re required to stop is if you’re traveling behind the bus.
