The Concordia Parish Sheriff s Office arrested a 16- year-old Clayton youth this week for allegedly spiking a teacher’s soft drink with an eye drop solution.
The Concordia Education Center teacher was treated at Riverland Medical Center for severe intestinal symptoms, according to CPSO School Resource Officer Lee Ford.
Ford indicated that the youth was apparently seeking revenge for another student who had been suspended by the teacher. He reportedly spiked her drink with about three¬ fourths of a bottle of Visine.
According to the National Poison Control Center, the ingredient Tetrahydrozoline HCL 0.05% can be highly toxic if ingested, causing such symptoms as lowering of the blood pressure; causing nausea, vomiting and possibly diarrhea; and other more severe symptoms depending upon the amount ingested and the size of the person who swallowed the chemical solution.
Deputy Ford said the teenager was released into the custody of his legal guardians following his arrest and he is scheduled for an upcoming juvenile court hearing in Seventh District Court.
The Concordia Parish Sheriffs Office is not releasing the name of t e youth because of his age.
