Swat teams dressed in commando gear are all over this neighborhood in Bunkie.  As News Channel 5 arrives, witnesses are saying they heard a gunshot.  Moments later, law enforcement officials come trickling towards our camera, and information comes trickling in-- about what’s happening and what lead to all of this:  Reports that the suspect plowed through police stops, shot at officers.  His name is Charles Keith Clark- in his 30s.  The Sheriff of St. Landry Parish says Clark has released his hostages (he knew both of them) and shot himself.

The Chief of Police of Melville is personally connected to this.  He says the suspect is his niece’s husband.  He says Clark wanted to kill him, his niece and other relatives.  Melville is where the first hostage was taken.

A lot of houses here are home to the suspect’s family.  A man who says he’s the suspect’s father is frustrated- says he could have reasoned with his son if only police let him through
