A popular elementary school principal may not be returning to her job next year.
June Jones retired from teaching three years ago to fulfill her requirements of the DROP program - a Louisiana retirement system. During that time, she was hired as principal of Rosenthal Montessori School, however, come June - that may not be the case anymore.
“I am in my third year of the DROP program, which can be very confusing for people who do not understand how it works. I’m not going to tell you that I understand all the details because by no means do I, but what I have asked to be able to do is to just end my DROP and then return to work here at Rosenthal,” said Jones.
But, Rapides Parish School Board Superintendent, Gary Jones, said “She’s trying to retire from her principal’s position and then she would like to come back to work. We’re in the process of interviewing principals right now and when that’s finished, I’ll review all the applicants and I’ll make the decision as to who to recommend, but historically, we’ve not taken someone who has retired one day as a principal and brought them back the next day as a principal”.
