He claims he is the son of God and that he is innocent of the charges against him.
Thursday, doomsday cult leader Wayne Bent went before a judge to answer charges of criminal sexual conduct with minors.
Bent is apparently on a hunger strike.
Fasting for days, 66-year-old Wayne Bent heads into a courtroom to face charges of criminal sexual contact with minors. Eight women in long skirts and two men from the cult also show up for support. One of them his son who defends the cult leader.
Jeff Bent the son of the cult leader says “the state is determined to bury this man and he is a good man.”
Inside the closed court room, the judge reduces bents bail to $55,000, cash only and the self proclaimed messiah maintains his innocence. After the arraignment, Bent meets with cult members who give him the only nourishment he’s had in days.
Jeff Bent says “the bailiff was kind enough to allow us to give him some orange juice. But he wont be eating jail food or drinking jail water. That will be the state’s problem they will have to deal with that.”
We briefly speak with bent on his way back to his cell.
When asked if he was innocent, Wayne Bent said ‘yes sir.’ When asked if he thought he was treated fairly in court, Bent said yes.
Jeff Bent says his father has assured him this is all part of God’s plan.
Jeff Bent said “it’s God’s purposes and God planned it this way so it would shock and offend you all and you would all have to look at it.”
