A Louisiana program designed to prevent students from dropping out of school and to encourage drop-outs to return to the classroom has received national recognition. The National Jobs for America’s Graduates Program awarded the Louisiana chapter its highest honor, a Five for Five National Performance Award and Top Five for Positive Outcomes Award for a 90% graduation rate among JAG students in Louisiana.

Implementation has begun within the City of Natchitoches of a comprehensive wayfinding and interpretive signage program for the entire Cane River region. The first phase of a larger regional signage project began this week. A series of signs are currently being installed at Interstate 49, historic sites within the City, the Natchitoches Historic District and the downriver region within the Cane River National Heritage Area.

Average Louisiana Teacher Salaries and Benefits Calculated
The Department of Education announced newly calculated average teacher salaries that include benefits at a committee meeting of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education Wednesday. The average adjusted salary for a thirty-year teacher is $47,030.18, while a first-year teacher’s adjusted salary is $36,493.93.
