Alexandria man arrested for theft and criminal damage

Reginald Sykes, Sr.: KALB/RPSO

ALEXANDRIA, La. (RPSO) - On May 25, deputies responded to 5700 block of New York Avenue in reference to theft and property damage. According to the complainant, the suspect(s) went onto the property and took a truck with a welding machine in the back of it without permission.

Access to the vehicle was very limited, so there were no possible suspects readily identified.

The case was turned over to Sheriff’s Detectives for further investigation. They were able to identify Reginald Sykes, Sr. of Alexandria as a suspect.

Detectives developed sufficient probable cause necessary to obtain warrants for the arrest of Sykes, Sr. for one count of theft over $25,000, criminal damage to property $500-$50,000 and criminal trespass.

On June 14, deputies assigned to the Warrants Section located Sykes, Sr. and took him into custody without incident. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center where he was later released on a $15,250.00 bond.

Detectives said the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests are likely.
