BEAUREGARD PARISH, La. (LOUISIANA STATE POLICE TROOP E RELEASE) - A Leesville man was arrested for his fourth DWI this afternoon after he caused a crash that sent the other driver, and two children, to the hospital.

On Friday, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 171 at Louisiana Highway 112 east of DeRidder.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 29-year-old Erica Fowler of DeRidder, was in the southbound left turn lane of US 171 preparing to make a left turn onto LA 112.

That's when troopers say a 1993 Honda Prelude, driven by 48-year-old Brian Lee Hayes of Leesville, was traveling in the right lane of US 171 when his vehicle crossed the left lane, sideswiping the Malibu in the turn lane.

Fowler and two children in her vehicle were transported to Beauregard Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Hayes was not injured.

Louisiana State Police suspect drug impairment on the part of Hayes is suspected to be a factor in the crash .

Hayes was arrested and charged with fourth offense DWI and improper lane usage. He was booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail. The crash remains under investigation.
