HOUMA, La. (AP) - State police say a Terrebonne Parish sheriff's deputy faces charges of driving while intoxicated, having an open alcohol container in her vehicle and not wearing a seat belt.

Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange tells The Courier Tara Whitney was stopped Sunday evening near Louisiana Highway 24 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Houma.

LaGrange said the state trooper who stopped Whitney conducted a field sobriety test, and she also submitted to a breath test. LaGrange would not release her blood-alcohol content.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said Whitney is a lieutenant who works as a juvenile officer. He said she's been placed on administrative leave until an internal affairs investigation is complete.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for Whitney.
