Meteorologist

Dorrell joined the team in June 2010 as the weekend meteorologist. He came to us from WLOX-TV in Biloxi, Mississippi where he was a Back-up Meteorologist and Production Technician.

Dorrell's interest in the weather came from his experience with Hurricane Katrina (August 29, 2005). He rode out the hurricane only two miles from the beach in Long Beach, MS.  During the chaos and aftermath of the coasts worst storm in 36 years is when he decided that he wanted to pursue an education in meteorology. He wanted to  learn how and why the weather strikes and be able to tell people when and where danger will be the worst.

Dorrell graduated from Mississippi State University in the fall of 2009 where he was a member of the MSU storm chasing team.

When not forecasting the weather, Dorrell enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, fishing and watching Saints football.

He is looking forward to meeting new and interesting people throughout CenLA and calling this area his new home.

Like expected, scattered showers and thunderstorms are sprinkled across the area. Some are getting wet, while others are staying dry. This will be the type of pattern that will be in the place through the next few days. Plenty of atmospheric moisture is present over the region, but there is no real lifting mechanism to get air moving upwards, which is why things should remain scattered in nature. For your Labor Day, expect a day very similar to today, albeit, a touch warmer with highs possibl...More >>

Hefty rains today-A look at the upcoming week

A slow "farmer's" rain fell across the area today as the area was blasted with tropical moisture to the south. As high pressure setup across the eastern U.S., tropical moisture banked up against it and consolidated across the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. As a trough approached from the west, the high pressure pushed eastward allowing the tropical moisture to finally move northward in bulk. These types of events can produce hefty rain events around here and this event did not disappoint. Attac...More >>
