Kisatchie National Forest Popular for Hunting

Posted: Updated:

PINEVILLE— As squirrel season opens Saturday, hunters will travel to Kisatchie National Forest.

The only requirement for hunting for the majority of Kisatchie National Forest lands is to follow state regulations.

The only permits required for Kisatchie National Forest are the free permits for the two national wildlife management preserves and the free deer hunting permits for the 8-day dog-deer season.

These permits are required for anyone hunting deer during those 8-days in areas of Kisatchie National Forest.

The Forest Service is asking hunters to be very careful with campfires considering the extreme drought conditions.

"I welcome hunters to the Kisatchie," said Forest Supervisor Mike Balboni.

"I want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable hunting season."
