Lorman,Miss. – A last second heave by Northwestern State's Kottia White from 30 feet away rimmed out as time expired as the Lady Demons dropped a 66-64 contest to Alcorn State here Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Lady Demons to 3-5 on the season as they remain winless with a 0-5 mark away from home this season. Alcorn State (1-5) picked up its first win of the year. Jordan James tied a career-high with a team-best 18 points followed by Jasmine Bradley with 13 points and Jasmine Upchurch with 11. "We played really well in stretches but when we didn't play well, not only did one thing drop, everything dropped," said head coach Jennifer Graf. "We can't continue to play high and low, high and low. We've got to get some consistency with our play." The Lady Demons got out to a good start and led 12-4 in the first four minutes of the game, but saw that lead dwindle to a 34-33 advantage at the half. Alcorn took advantage of some flat Lady Demon play in the second half and trailed by five points with 7:33 to play before rallying to take a 62-61 lead with 1:04 to play. With under a minute to play and NSU with the ball, the Lady Demons turned the ball over that led to an Alcorn score and the lead for good. "In a tight ball game like that, you want to be the one to play the best at the end and obviously we weren't the team," said Graf. "We had a crucial turnover at the end of the game, but that didn't win or lose the ball game for us. There were many times in the second half where we could've gotten a run together and we didn't." The Lady Demons return to action on Tuesday when they visit Texas Tech at 7 p.m. in Lubbock.
