Storm Damage in Ruby

Storm Damage in Ruby

Posted: Updated:

Verdia Doty of Ruby was praying that her family would stay out of harm's way. On Wednesday evening, a strong storm passed through her neighborhood...her and her husband were home at the time.

"My husband was watching the weather...and he said, he could see the blackness. He went ahead and got the dog to put him in shop, because we usually keep him in the shop. It hit, he was coming out, and he couldn't even get to the door...when he finally got through, it took everything out."

Almost everything in the backyard felt the impact.

"It took the back part of our shop, threw it all over the yard. We have a tree on the boat...part of our roof on our barn is gone. I got a tree in the front yard down...and got one hanging by a thread up there."

Ruby-Kolin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the Doty's and several other homes in the area, making sure that no one was hurt.

"Our units actually responded to six separate calls in the area...about an hour's time.

Several people got stuck when they were getting out of their residences...but they removed the trees."

Captain Cannon says that they haven't had this much damage in years...but it could have been a whole lot worse.

As for the Doty's, the place that they have called home for more than 30 years is still in tact.

"Insurance done called, they said they will be here in a couple of days. We lost everything in the shop...it's all ruined."

"SD: Luckily, you're ok."

"We're ok, that's all I got to say. These things could be put back. I'm not worried about it."
