Campti Double Homicide Suspect Search

Posted: Updated:

Here's the latest on the double homicide investigation in Campti from the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office: Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Deputies along with area law enforcement officers are searching for a Campti man after he escaped custody.

According to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones, Jr., deputies were in the process of interviewing Reado N. Nargo, age 30, of 114 Vaughn St., Campti, LA, in connection with a double homicide that occurred Wednesday night, in Campti..

Sheriff Jones said at the same time the Natchitoches Multijurisdictional Drug Task Force had captured DeQuincy Rushing, age 19 , of Natchitoches, who was wanted on an attempted murder charge, in connection with the shooting of Anthony Loucious on January 15,  in Payne Subdivision.

As deputies attentions were diverted to the newly captured Rushing, Nargo slipped from custody.  Deputies immediately began a search for Nargo, assisted by the Natchitoches Police Department.

Additional personnel from both the Natchitoches Sheriff's Office and the Natchitoches Police Department were called in to contain suspected hiding locations and follow up on reports of suspicious persons.  Nargo is a black male, approximately 6'2'', 185 lbs., dark complexion, and braided hair.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a baby blue T-shirt, black boots, and a puffy black hooded jacket.  Nargo was handcuffed.

Anyone with information regarding Nargo is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office Investigations Division, at 357-7830.  Anyone sighting Nargo is asked to call 911.  Sheriff Jones said Nargo is considered dangerous.

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office is questioning 4 people, after a double homicide in Campti Thursday. The deadly violence might also be the first double homicide in the town's history. News Channel Five's Nolan Crane joins us at the live desk and you just got back from talking to people in Campti.

That's right Dale and Joy, the people who live in Campti say they take pride in being a quiet little town, but today now that feeling of security has been rattled, and they're now on edge.

I was shocked because you know nothing like this never happens like this around Campti around this area at all," said Paige Caldwell.

2:30 Thursday morning, the Natchitoches parish sheriff's officer responded to a call, after a body was found in the middle of Vaughn Street here in Campti. Then around 11 am, less then 100 yards away, a second body was found near these railroad tracks. It was literally too close to home. Paige lives feet away from where the crime scene was.

It's weird to know that something like that happened from right down the street where was sleeping," said Paige Caldwell.

The crime scene tape around Paige's home is a grim reminder that even in small towns, crime happens. Even harder, she says, is the fact that she knew the two men. The sheriff's office has identified the two victims as John and Stanley Brimsley, who were cousins. A motive is what's missing now, and the sheriff's says they're questioning people who were in the area at the time.

"3 or 4 people that had been seen somewhat in the area when this occurred. The investigation is still on going, still rather early in on the investigation," said Sheriff Victor Jones.

While the investigation moves on, Paige and other residents in Campti will try to do the same, remembering friends that are now gone.

"He never did anybody anything but it was sad to see them go like that," said Paige Caldwell.

"It really opens you eyes to let you know that it can happen to anybody, at anytime, at any place," said Kelly Coleman.

Their small town, Thursday night, full of big questions, still unanswered.

Again, the sheriff says there are no suspects right now, just those 3 or 4 people that are being called persons of interest. The sheriff's office is asking anybody for information, to get in touch with them.
