
Early this morning, a man from Marksville, LA was killed when a vehicle struck him and did not stop.
Troopers responded to the crash around 3:00 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 1 in Simmesport, LA. The crash involved an unknown vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian is identified as thirty-six-year old Levi Jones Jr. The unknown vehicle was south bound on LA Hwy 1 when it struck Jones Jr. and did not stop. Jones Jr. was located in the south bound lane.
Jones Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic.
Troop E troopers have investigated five fatal crashes for the year of 2012, resulting in seven fatalities.
