Approaching Cold Front

Approaching Cold Front

Posted: Updated:

There are several flood warnings in effect for our viewing area that include: Rapides, Grant, LaSalle Parish, Evangeline, Beauregard, Allen and Winn Parishes. To view a complete list of warnings for our area and read the details listed under the warnings, follow the link below to our website.

During the overnight and morning hours, we saw light to moderate fog throughout the area. By 9am most if not all of the fog had burned off.
During the later morning and midday hours, we will see overcast to mostly cloudy skies. These clouds will be gradually clearing throughout the afternoon hours. This clearing, coupled with a warm SW wind, will assist in boosting temps. Expect daytime heating, couple with a few other variables, to allow temps to rise well into the 70's throughout the area. Therefore, it will be a rather warm day for Cenla. Especially for a winter day... We will see a moderate wind out of the SW and South for the rest of the day, as well.
Overnight, expect to see increasing clouds with another round of fog. Conditions will be mild and muggy and fog will become dense for some areas. Temps will be in the mid to upper 50's again as there will be a lot of moisture in the air. Winds will also remain light to moderate and out of the SW.
Thursday, the warming trend that we have been seeing will continue. Temps will climb into the upper 70's and get really close to the 80 degree mark. The record max temp for Thursday is 82 degrees and it looks like some places will break that record.
Thursday and Thursday night, we will see increasing rain chances as a front moves toward the area. In advance of the front, we will see a slight risk for severe weather coupled with a good chance for rain.

This front is remaining difficult to come to a solid prediction. There are several different computer models that forecasters use to make predictions. All of these models are agreeing as far as timing goes. The problem that the models are having is activation. The air mass ahead of the front is stable. As the front moves closer, we will see this ridge break down making the air mass over Cenla progressively unstable. As new model runs are coming out they are not in complete agreement. In fact, some of the models are showing the front passing all the way through our viewing area before the rain starts.

This means that the showers and thunderstorms might not kick up until after the front has passed through the area.
Nevertheless, most of the viewing area will see rain from the event as well as the possibility for some strong thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has put our viewing area under a slight risk for severe weather.
