Fire Cancels Classes; Janitor's Body Found

Classes are canceled at Vidrine Elementary School and Evangeline Central in Evangeline Parish on Monday morning, March 5th.

We're told a fire in a building next to the school cafeteria led to the closure. While the main building was not affected, as a precaution, classes at Vidrine Elementary and a feeder school, Evangeline Central will not have classes on Monday, March 5th.

It took more than two-dozen firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

We're told the school's head janitor, Donald Thomas, was found dead inside the storage building at the school. He was an employee at the school for more than 20 years.

There's no word yet on what started the fire.

Classes will resume at Vidrine Elementary School and Evangeline Central on Tuesday, March 6th.

Grief counselors will be on-hand for students and staff at the school.
