Northwestern State will open a four-game baseball home stand on Wednesday when the Demons host Louisiana-Lafayette at 6:30 at Brown-Stroud Field.
The Demons (7-12) are coming off their second consecutive Southland Conference series win and are in a tie for first place in the league with a 4-2 record. They'll host Lamar in a three-game series this weekend beginning Friday at 6:30.
ULL is 12-8 on the season and was scheduled to play Tulane on Tuesday night pending the severe weather that's sweeping across the state.
The Ragin' Cajuns are hitting .276 as a team and are led by shortstop Ryan Leonards' .364 batting average as right fielder Dylan Butler tops the team with five home runs and 25 RBI.
ULL is expected to start right-handed pitcher Kendall Mayer (0-0, 4.82) on the mound as he'll be making his third start and fifth appearance on the season.
The Demons will enter the game with a .270 team batting average as right fielder Jordan Buckley has jumped to the top of the list with a team-best .353 average. He's followed by left fielder Will Watson with a .321 mark and first baseman Nick Hinojos at .320.
Hinojos leads the team with four homers and 19 RBI. He had four of those off of one swing at Texas-San Antonio last Saturday when he hit his first career grand slam to help spark the Demons to a 20-17 win.
Freshman pitcher Jamie Bittle (0-0, 2.79) will be making his first collegiate start on the mound Wednesday. Bittle has appeared in eight games and has struck out five batters in 9.2 innings pitched.
This will be the first of two meetings on the season between NSU and ULL. They'll play again on April 18 in Lafayette.
