Young Achiever's Spotlight-Malik Victorian

Posted: Updated:

PINEVILLE, La.- One local high school student has been building quite a name for himself here in CenLa and now he's heading to Ohio to make his lifelong dream a reality. Check out this week's Young Achiever's Spotlight.

Meet Malik Victorian. He's what they call a "triple threat" in show business and he's been building quite an impressive resume here in CenLa.

"I've done work with Pineville High School, Family Playhouse, Lagniappe, City Park Players. I've done 'Pippin'. I was Pippin in Pippin," says Victorian.

In fact, it goes on....

"I was dancers in 'Cinderella' and 'Carousel' of Pineville High School Production and then I played Coxworth in Beauty and the Beast. Coalhouse Walker in Ragtime."

And on...

"I was in Schoolhouse Rock, I was in Children's Letters to God...."

And on!

"All State concerts, festivals, solo ensemble festivals, and this past summer i went to Europe."

But wait! There's more!

"Oh! And I got to play this kid named Peter," adds Victorian.

Now he's heading to the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory in Ohio-one of the nation's top schools-to pursue a career in musical theater.

A dream, says Malik, that is years in the making.

"The surrealness of it just kind of hit me and I just had to sit and, excuse me, but this was a very stressful process, so I kind of cried a little bit," says Victorian.

And when the summer is over and he hits the highways to Ohio.....he's got big plans.

"I want to be able to sight read like a beast. I want to be able to play the piano like a beast. I want to be able to have the musical aspect like a beast."

Malik isn't the only one who has high hopes for his career.

"If you were to follow Malik from now until fifteen years from now it's going to be a life that's going to amaze everyone. As long as he keeps that same personality and dedication and keeps pushing himself forward it's going to be something we can all be proud of," says Ross Schexnayder who is the Artistic Director for Lagniappe Theatre.

And for others out there with a dream or aspiration, Malik has a message:

"I just want people to have hope for anything, not just about theater but hope for anything. Nothing is impossible. You just have to want it enough and if you love it and if you want it, whatever you want, it'll come true."

A young achiever....who's right at home in the spotlight.
