Before any predictions are out and the first storm even forms, there is only one certainty meteorologists have heading into the new season.
That is the list of names of the storms that could come our way, this year. These lists of potential hurricane names are recycled every six years. With the exception of names that have been retired due to a significant landfall.
Hurricane names have been used in an official capacity since the 1950's and they alternated between guys and girls names. Hurricane names are chosen by the World Meteorological Society and come from the French, English and Spanish languages.
This list of names comes from those three languages, because the areas that are affected by tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Basin affect countries that speak French, English and Spanish.
