THINKAlex Meets Tonight

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. - The city of Alexandria is starting a new project. It's a way for the community to tell city leaders what they want in their neighborhoods. And, it all kicks off tonight.

It's called THINKAlex. And if you've ever wondered why a turn lane is where it's at, or if you have questions about drainage in your neighborhood - now's the time to ask.

The city's been awarded a half million dollar grant to fix problems citywide and to make things even better.

The best part? It's community driven. That means you'll have the chance to take your questions and maybe even your solutions to city leaders.

"No one knows more than the community itself what Alexandria needs," said Mayor Jacques Roy. "If you just go hire some planners from California to come here, they're going to impose some cookie cutter thing on the city and say this is what works for us. But, it may not work for Alexandria. So, I think its imperative for the community to drive the process more than anybody else."

Several community meetings are set up for you to voice your concerns and ask questions about your neighborhood. The first will take place Monday at 6 pm at the Bolton Avenue Community Center.
