...THIRD TROPICAL STORM FORMS IN THE ATLANTIC BASIN...
The third tropical storm of the young 2012 season has formed in the north Atlantic Ocean. Tropical Storm Chris is located about 565 miles SSW of Cape Race, Newfoundland. Chris is moving toward the ESE at near 13 mph and the maximum sustained wind remains near 45 mph. This storm is not a threat to land and not expected to affect central Louisiana.
Several of our global forecast models continue to indicate possible tropical cyclone development somewhere over the western portion of the Atlantic Basin during the next week. The most likely place for this would over the western Caribbean or in the southern Gulf of Mexico. My confidence in these predictions is increased by a favorable large-scale pattern known as the Madden-Julian Oscillation, or the MJO. Stay tuned.
