Chamber Hosts Social Media Series

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La.--The Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Gold, Weems, Bruser, Sues & Rundell Law Firm to provide a 5-part series of workshops on social media law.

The program, "Conquering Social Media," will coach many businesses about social media as the new medium to interact with their customers and preparing for legal risks.

Organizers say companies are struggling with the ever-changing ways in which their business and competitive information can be threatened by careless and intentionally disruptive uses of social media by their employees and competitors.

This series sets out to examine the social media landscape, discuss the benefits and risks of using social media in your business, discuss the legal and other risks social media can pose, and how to effectively manage and minimize associated risks.

The objectives of this program series include:

  • Demystifying social media.
  • Understanding the benefits and common pitfalls with the use of social media.
  • Learning how to create a social media strategy by creating guidelines for employees, protecting propriety or confidential information, and managing your reputation.

The program schedule:

Module 1 - June 20: "Social Media Roadmap"
Module 2 - July 28: "Social Media Policies for Employees"
Module 3: August 15: "Top Social Media Disasters"
Module 4: September 19: "Can We Be Friends?"
Module 5: October 17: "Using Social Media for Employment Decisions"

The workshops are free and are scheduled to be held at the Chamber Office from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

To register, email bfontenot@goldweems.com  or call Barbara Fontenot at 318-445-6471.
