Red Cross Trains Young Swimmers

NATCHITOCHES, La. – NSU is accepting registration for the American Red Cross GuardStart program at the Robert Wilson Recreation Complex. 

It is designed for youth 11 years old or who have completed the fifth grade through 14 years old. Participants must be able to swim the front crawl for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side, tread water for one minute using arms and legs and submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet underwater.

The program involves a significant amount of physical activity and touches on prevention, fitness, response, leadership and professionalism.

The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Thursday for three weeks July 9-12, July 16-19 and July23-26.  The cost is $60 per participants.  ARC Lifeguard Instructor Katie Yandell will be the instructor.
