Farm Bill Cuts Huge For State

Posted: Updated:

ALEXANDRIA, La. - The State Commissioner of Agriculture Mike Strain says the Louisiana farming and agriculture industry has improved over the last two years.

But, there's a new challenge on the horizon that could really hurt the entire state. Strain is referring to a federal farming bill that the U.S. Senate just rejected.

The bill cuts direct payment for crops across the nation at up to 30 percent. Unfortunately for Louisiana, the bill would cut payment for rice at 60 percent.

That reduction would cut $100 million out of Louisiana's farming industry. Strain says they are working diligently to change this legislation.
